Product Description

This product is used for in vitro quantitative determination of Lipoprotein(a) in human serum or plasma. Clinically, it is primarily applied to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Product Description

Lp(a) is a plasma lipoprotein consisting of a cholesterol-rich LDL particle attached to an additional apolipoprotein called apo(a). Lp(a) levels are genetically determined and not affected by changes in lifestyle.High levels of Lp(a) increase risk of coagulation and contribute to atherosclerosis.[1]

Clinical Significance[2-3]

l  High Lp(a) concentration is a causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), aortic valve stenosis (AVS), cardiovascular mortality, and all-cause mortality.

l  Elevated Lp(a) is associated with an increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).

l  Elevated Lp(a) is a risk factor even at very low LDL-C concentration.

l  High Lp(a) induces the expression of inflammatory and calcification genes in vascular and valvular cells and associates with increased incidence and progression of AVS.

l  In children, an Lp(a) >30 mg/dL (>75 nmol/L) is associated with increased risk of (recurrent) arterial ischaemic stroke.

l  Very low Lp(a) levels associate with an increased risk of incident Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
